<aside> πŸ’° Layoffs may cause personal finance hiccups.

Most companies are offering severance pay and medical insurance for short term but we want you to start planning.

  1. Note down all your monthly expenses on a sheet of paper. Next, multiply the monthly expense by 6 and make sure you have enough cash conserved in a bank account to make sure your fixed expenses are taken care of. You can not be mentally stable without expenses taken care of.

  2. If you have loan obligations, speak to your bank as soon as possible and restructure your loan and try getting a EMI holiday until you find the next role. Try for 6 months at the least.

  3. The severance pay could come in handy here. Make sure you have a single bank account where you keep it and pace it well over the next 6 months.

Structure to manage your money

<aside> 🧠 Decide what you want to do next.

If you are financially stable, do not rebound into another role just for the sake of money. If you have financial obligations, you may want to start working right away towards getting a role.

Ask yourself four key questions.

  1. What is your superpower skill? could be super niche for example cracking partnerships

  2. What is your non-negotiable in life? could be money, stock options, work-life balance, job title or something else. Pick one.

  3. Which part of the last job you loved the most? write that down.

  4. Which part of the last job you hated the most? write that down.

The decision framework. For each next role that you are evaluating to apply for - the role should have more of what you love, less of what you hate. Plus, your super power should get you in the door for an interview and lastly your non-negotiable should be sorted.
